Cookie consent
Cookie consent is the visitor's permission to store or read cookies (and often to run similar tracking) that aren't strictly necessary for the service they asked for. Under GDPR and the ePrivacy rules most EU sites follow, that usually means a clear choice before marketing, analytics, or profiling tags fire.

A GDPR cookie audit inventories which cookies, pixels, and similar tech load on a site, what they do, who sets them, and whether the legal basis (often consent for non-essential tracking) matches what a real browser session actually does.

The TTDSG is Germany's federal law covering, among other things, access to information stored on a user's device, including cookies and similar identifiers. It sits next to GDPR: TTDSG often decides when you need consent before setting non-essential cookies; GDPR covers how personal data from those technologies is processed.
